Can a Spender and a Saver Really Have a Successful Relationship?

I am a millennial that watched my parents struggle through debt, even once having to wave bye to a family car as it was being repossessed.

Today, I can’t even enjoy getting my nails done or eat at a fancy restaurant because that’s the type of person I’ve become as a result of that upbringing.

My husband, on the other hand, is the “let’s do something spontaneous” type. The ‘live every day like it’s your last’ type. The “why have one when you can have five!” type, and having heard it way too many times already being married to him, “OMG look at the size of that RC boat!” type of person. So to say that we are on completely separate ends of the financial mindset scale is a massive understatement.

And I think it’s widely understood that the parallels in the hard-headedness of both types of these people can prevent a couple from making it successfully work together, but we are proof that it is a possibility.

Mind you, I am a very laid-back person. So that helps, but seriously nothing gives me more anxiety than spending money.

So, how do you stay on the same page when it comes to your finances?

It really does take a slight shift in mindset from both sides. It will not work if even 1 person isn’t willing to adjust
